The English Church Heidelberg
and the Anglican Church
The English Church Heidelberg is part of the Church of England Diocese in Europe (www.europe.anglican.org), which covers a vast area of the continent. Our Bishop is Dr Geoffrey Rowell. The Diocesan Synod meets annually, at present usually near London.
Our Archdeaconry is made up of Germany and Northern Europe. It meets every three years in Archdeaconry Synod. Most of our contacts and exchange with other chaplaincies take place at the level of the Deanery of Germany. The Deanery Synod meets twice a year in one of the chaplaincies in Germany.
The Council of Anglican & Episcopal Churches in Germany, CAECG, brings together on a regular basis all the Church of England chaplaincies and Episcopal Church of the USA (ECUSA) congregations in Germany. The CAECG Developing Christian Ministry programme offers events and programmes for exploring faith and ministries (see information on church noticeboard).
The Old Catholic Church is a Catholic (not Roman Catholic) church in full communion with the Church of England under the Bonn Agreement of 1931. In Heidelberg we share the church building and have regular joint bilingual services as well as other shared activities. For more information see: www.alt-katholisch.de
